This fall table will be great through the month of November, including Thanksgiving (even though we’ll be gone for Thanksgiving).
What sets it apart is the use of neutrals, with just a pop of a dusty blue and the wild grapevine woven around the basket and candles.
Wild Grapevine Foraging
Now I didn’t go to a hobby store and buy this grapevine. I actually pulled it down out of some trees near our house. Do you know how to identify wild grapevine?
The leaves look like this
and you’ll see the vine wrapped around the tree trunk like this. Now, don’t worry — you’re actually doing the poor tree a favor by relieving it of some of this parasite. Just find a piece low enough to reach and pull.
At this time of year, the vine will still be pliable so you can twist it however you want. Trim off straight branches, but reserve the beautiful curly little tendrils like in this photo.
Pecans, Pumpkins & Plaid
Did you notice the pecans at the bottom of my candle holders? Our house was built in the middle of what was once a pecan orchard, so there’s no shortage of those either.
The center basket is filled with a variety of pumpkins. The gray-green and white are real. I have just one velvet pumpkin (maybe more next year?) and a wicker-type bought years ago.
The runner is actually just a two yard piece of plaid decorator fabric. These are my colors so I wanted to reserve the fabric for other future uses. Therefore, no cutting or sewing. I just folded it into the shape and size I wanted and pressed it.
I’m loving the way it all came together. I wanted to pick up that stripe of greenish blue in the fabric so I made 4 napkins with another piece of fabric I had.
Feathers, Napkins & Placemats
There was only enough fabric for 4 napkins, so I just alternated with beige napkins.
Okay, you’re thinking how fabulous those feathers look, right? Now, I promise I do shop at Home Goods and Joann’s, etc. but I didn’t buy these either.
Buddy makes a trip to South Dakota hunting pheasant most years and he brings me back these awesome feathers.
One purchase I did make was the round place mats. I started out to get wicker chargers, but I found these for a fraction of what chargers would have cost and I love them. I know I’ll use them over and over.
Without the table set, these fall table decorations will be perfect until I’m ready to do something for December and Christmas. I’m not one to rush through fall and Thanksgiving. I like to savor every holiday and season. Got your Cornbread Dressing recipe for that pretty table? This one is our classic.
Now, I know not everyone is lucky enough to have a husband bring them home pheasant feathers or live in the middle of a pecan orchard, so I’ve shopped the look for you: This post contains affiliate links for your convenience. Click here to read our full disclosure policy
